I’m almost done with all the improvements I wanted to make at the start of this series. Only two left. We’ll start with disabling tailscale subnet routers as they aren’t needed at the moment.
Tailscale subnet routers come in really handy when you have a bunch of devices on
your network and you can’t or don’t want to install tailscale on all of them. I
still have devices that meet that criteria, but I think now that I have caddy
setup as a central access to most of my services, I don’t need direct access to
most of those hosts anymore. It’s also easy enough to turn back on if I do need
it in the future. I was using my home router for this, since it already has IP
forwarding enabled (since it does NAT for my home network). Turning it off is as
simple as logging into the machine and clearing the tailscale configuration for
it:
tailscale set --advertise-routes=""This means I can’t directly access my home IP addresses while away from home over my tailscale VPN, but for the moment I can access all the services I need via the caddy reverse proxy I setup at the start of this series.
